Do your kids love to brush their teeth? Watch this video, and get your kids to sing along with Aya Bradford, the winner of the 2022 Arizona PBS and Delta Dental Foundation Digital Video Contest, where she performs her original song, “I love to brush my teeth.”
It is important to start consistently taking care of children’s dental health from a young age. It’s difficult to maintain good oral hygiene when it’s seen as a chore, but it becomes easier when children find it fun or even love it like Aya does.
Find ways to make brushing your child’s teeth fun, like playing two minutes of their favorite song to keep track of how long they’re brushing their teeth. Making sure they enjoy it or at least make a habit of brushing their teeth helps to ensure they will continue a good dental health routine later in life.
Like Aya, it’s important to brush your children’s teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Brushing in the morning rids teeth of the bacteria that built up overnight. Brushing teeth at night gets rid of the plaque and food debris that have built up in the mouth throughout the course of the day.
This is also when kids should be flossing. This debris and bacteria build up between teeth, and flossing is the best way to get it out and avoid cavities or gum disease. It is recommended to floss at least once a day, and it is best to do so after a day spent eating and drinking.
These behaviors will lead to a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. Help your kids to start these good dental practices at a young age and be like Aya, who loves to brush her teeth!
