Meet Your Dentist’s Tools | Dental Worksheet
Just like any job has their own special tools, dentists have tools with different purposes to inspect and clean your mouth. During a cleaning, you might feel the dental hygienist scraping at your teeth, spraying water in your mouth, then using suction to pull the water back out. But which tool does what? Use this dental worksheet to learn about your dentist’s tools and the different uses for each one. Then, look at the coloring page and see if you can match each tool to its description.
Ms. Mirror functions to bring light into your mouth when it’s too dark for your dentist to see. The mirror on the end of its stick reflects light into your mouth and allows for your dentist to get a better look at the inside of your mouth. Mr. Thirsty sprays water into your mouth to wash away toothpaste or particles from your cleaning. It can also suction the water back out of your mouth. Your dentist might also use it to suction out extra saliva.
Mr. Explorer is a tool with a curved end that dentists often use to explore your mouth, count your teeth or check between your teeth. X-rays are pictures that dentists take of your teeth to get a better look at them, even below your gums. When these pictures are taken, your dentist will give you a heavy vest to protect you from the machine’s radiation. Mr. Bumpy and Mrs. Whistle are the tools your dentist uses to get rid of the decay of cavities. You won’t feel them, but you’ll hear them, because one of them makes a bumpy sound and the other whistles!
When you finish reading through this dental worksheet, get to coloring! Match each tool to their name and color them the color provided within their descriptions. Then, share it with a friend so they can learn about their dentist’s tools as well.
